UPDATE: The period for submitting comments for the Draft Principles has been extended to September 3.

It has became patently clear that many of our colleagues (in particular, those most involved and likely to be most affected by the new agreement) are "in the field."  In order to allow adequate time for comments, I have begun a petition requesting an extension of the comment period.

If you are interested in endorsing this petition, please send your name and affiliation as well as any contact information and/or comments to webmaster@kellywebworks.com.  That information will be posted below.

On Wednesday, August 11, this letter, including the names, affiliations, contact information and comments of those endorsing it, will be sent to the NAGPRA Review Committee via express mail. (This action is pending given notification of an extension.)

RE: Request for extension of the comment period, NAGPRA Draft Principles of Agreement

Dear Colleagues:

Noting the unfortunate concurrence of the comment period with the summer academic recess and the summer field season and mindful of everyone's desire to avoid even the appearance of impropriety, we strongly urge the Committee to extend the comment period by not less than 60 days.

Please give this matter you consideration.   We believe that a 60-day extension of the comment period is the best interests of gathering representative and considered comments on this important agreement.

Respectfully submitted,
